WEBSITE REBRAND

WEATHERSCOPE IS THE FIRST 4K LIVE STREAMING WEATHER APP THAT LETS USERS BROADCAST THE WEATHER FROM THEIR CITY.

WEBSITE BRANDING: WHAT DOES WEATHERSCOPE DO?

WEATHERSCOPE’S CONCERN WAS THAT THEIR OLD WEBSITE WASN’T USER FRIENDLY AND WASN’T EASY TO NAVIGATE THROUGH. SO WE STARTED REBRANDING THEIR SITE AND DESIGNED THE NEW VERSION USING A WORDPRESS.ORG SITE.

MY CHALLENGE: 

WORKING AS THE ONLY UX DESIGNER ON BOTH HIS WEBSITE AND APP SCREEN REBRANDING, I HAD TO FIGURE OUT WHAT THE PURPOSE WAS FOR THE SITE AND WHAT THE USERS WOULD BE LOOKING FOR ON THE SITE. HOW DO WE ENGAGE USERS ON THE SITE? HOW CAN THEY FIND CONTENT AND WHAT KIND OF CONTENT WOULD THEY BE SEARCHING FOR?

PROJECT SUMMARY:

WEATHERSCOPE’S OLD SITE DIDN’T REFLECT THEIR CUTTING EDGE TECHNOLOGY AND THE CONNECTION THEY WANTED TO PROVIDE FOR USERS OF THEIR APP TO TRANSLATE OVER TO THEIR SITE. THEY WANTED TO REBRAND THEIR SITE SO THAT USERS FROM THE APP COULD FIND MORE INFORMATION ON WHAT THE APP WAS ABOUT. ALSO THE TARGETED USER DEMOGRAPHIC WASN’T CLEAR. THE OLD SITE AND BRANDING REFLECTED AN OUTDATED BLUE THAT SCREAMED FINANCIAL BANK INSTITUTION INSTEAD OF A FUN, FAMILY FRIENDLY APP THAT WAS ON THE CUTTING EDGE OF TECHNOLOGY.

RESEARCH:

WEATHERSCOPE IS A FAIRLY NEW COMPANY, THEIR WEATHERSCOPE APP IS STILL IN BETA TESTING MODE, THEY STILL HAD A LOT OF KINKS TO WORK OUT AND ARE STILL IN THE PROCESS OF COLLECTING DATA FROM THEIR USER BASE TO KEEP PERFECTING THE APP.

PERSONA: WHO USES THIS APP?

WEATHER ENTHUSIASTS, PEOPLE WHO LOVE THE OUTDOORS, AND A SMALL COMMUNITY IN SAN FRANCISCO, STILL TO BE DETERMINED. AGES RANGE FROM 22-45.

FINAL WEBSITE: DESIGN AND UX 

THIS PROJECT WAS COMMISSIONED BY LAWRENCE KARNOW, KRON4 TV METEOROLOGIST AND ENTREPRENEUR WHO CREATED THE WEATHERSCOPE APP WITH THE INTENT OF “SHARING YOUR WORLD” BY LIVE BROADCASTING THE WEATHER IN YOUR OWN CITY. I WORKED WITH ON REBRANDING HIS WEBSITE BASED ON WHAT THE USERS WOULD SEARCH FOR, WE WANTED TO GIVE THEM A WAY TO LEARN ABOUT THE APP THROUGH A SERIES OF HOW TO VIDEOS THAT WE PLACED AT THE VERY TOP OF THE SITE. THEN WE DECIDED TO HAVE A SECTION WHERE USERS COULD SEE THE LATEST NEWS AND BLOG POSTS. THEN WE CREATED A LARGE SECTION BELOW TO ADD PAST LIVE VIDEOS FROM THE APP SO THAT USERS COULD SEE THE FORMAT AND GET A GLIMPSE OF WHAT THE APP COULD DO. THE MAIN WEBSITE FUNCITIONALITY WAS TO GIVE USERS A PLACE TO FIND INFORMATION ON THE APP AND TO LEARN ABOUT THE LATEST UPDATES AND NEWS.

Designed and implemented a new notifications screen from other users who’ve commented, liked, or started following an account on WeatherScope. Designed all graphic elements and UI.

Designed the UI for a new SEARCH function/screen at the top right of the Video on Demand section to search for Categories, Location, and People on WeatherScope.

Long term project between Oct 2016 – June 2017

Rebranded colors from a dark sky blue to a turquoise, bluish gradient for the app screens, designed the user flow from home screen to search features and user profile screen.
